Horseback and Locrian, two behemoths of bleak darkside music join forces on this one sided etched LP inspired by Alan Weisman's book The World Without Us. They head straight into the fog with howling black metal atmospheric soundscapes of 'The Gift' that conjure images of a desolate post apocalyptic wasteland with crumbling black towers and scorched corpses. All the while an eerie presence lurks while bestial vocals growl. Not a pretty picture depending on your viewpoint but really well realized. Then Comes the unsettling 'Our Epitaph' which is fairly stripped back with minimal repetitive drum hits and tape loops, with every hit the tension increases and I'm now eagerly awaiting the shitstorm but this doesn't fit into that predictable box, rather stretching out the repetition and slowly blackening atmospherics to create a magnificent sense of drama. Very beautiful it is too as swathes of feedback are slowly introduced.
