- Twenty Ten by Kenneth Kirschner
Twenty Ten is a mammoth three disc set. With so much audio and little time to delve into the set in great depth I'll attempt a brief overview. The track titles simply refer to dates in the year, beginning with January 4, 2011. This piece was created with xylophones and Metallophones acquired from a local school. The playing is pretty frantic to begin with but gradually eases off a little with two layers of bells bouncing off of one another. This track conveys a real sense of the artist having fun while exploring the harmonic relationships and the overall sound is really very pretty. November 7, 2010 is an epic 42 minutes of delicate low piano notes and whispered high pitched bowed strings. The overall effect is very mysterious, occasionally creepy and almost unsettling but there's also something very tender and fragile in there too. I've really only scratched the surface of this gargantuan set but if the remaining two discs are of this quality, which I'm sure they will be, then this is another gem in the 12k catalogue.
