8/10 Clinton Staff review, 24 June 2011

At my time of life it's very easy to get confused. As I was this morning, bleary eyed, looking at my review pile thinking, 'This has already been out before...'. Well what I was thinking about in my muddled state was the first part of this entitled 'Death'. This one, 'Valley' (geddit?), is the second part and both go together to make a full album which will be released on 2CD on Basses Frequencies this autumn. Explanations over and onto the music. It's what you might expect really, ambient evocative guitar driftings over the course of three lengthy pieces. More ambient and less 'played' than the Yellow 6 stuff. Instead, the guitars have been put through huge vats of reverb. Hugely evocative, nicely played cinematic instrumental ambience. My favourite track is 'Creek' with its gently ebbing guitars recalling Robin Guthrie or Vini Reilly producing lovely swathes of sound but the whole record is enticing for any fans of this kind of shifting soundscape.
