8/10 Brian Staff review, 30 June 2011
This record is a hard one to describe as the press release says it all quite succinctly and far more academically than I could ever muster. The two tunes here are in many ways sister pieces to his last super-smash 'A Static Place', one of my sleepy-time CDs of the year. Dense, shifting classical-hued drone movements that use Händel's music taken from old 78's as source material. I cannot think of anything else constructive to say apart from that I reckon this chap produces some undeniably deep, sublime and affecting soundscapes with more staggering grace and elegance which results in an almost spiritual awakening by the closure of the chorally inclined 'In Them a Giant Deserted Himself'! I once played Grouper in a church and it sounded heavenly. I'd be more than happy to hear this baby zinging off the rafters!
