Best Dressed Chicken In Town by Dr. Alimantado

Not Jeremy Corbyn as depicted by the always-on-cue social media team at the Conservative party but classic sessions from 1978 where the good doctor collaborated with a host of household names in the reggae and dub would including Lee Perry, King Tubby, Horace Andy and Gregory Isaacs. Brilliant freeform sessions that became the first ever release on Greensleeves I'll have you know. Now re-issued on Alimanoto's own Keyman Records.

Vinyl LP £12.99 KMLP001

Reissue LP on Keyman Records.

I was checking this LP out last night and what a treat on the ears it is. Widely considered to be an all-time favourite amongst roots reggae enthusiasts, it's a mighty brew of skanking rhythms and conscious dread/gunman lyrics. Recorded at Black Ark by The Upsetter (Lee 'Scratch' Perry of course) and King Tubby's between 1973 and 1976 with 'Gimmie Mi Gun' being recorded at Channel One. I think the Tubby's tracks engineered by Philip Smart are probably the standout cuts for me with some grand echo/delay/reverb being applied to the tight rhythms. I'm ashamed to say I'd never actually heard this LP before but this reissue now has a good home.
