Mind Over Mirrors is the work of Jamie Fennelly. Known primarily for his work in Peeesseye he has also been known to involve himself with the likes of Acid Birds, Manpack Variant and Phantom Limb & Bison. This is his first solo outing in five years and the first under this new moniker. Fennelly produces vibrant and exotic drones using a medium size Indian harmonium that he then processes with echos, delays and various other digital effects. The resulting sound is one of high drama and grandiosity, taking simple drones and twisting them into mammoth sonic outbursts. It's obvious he's capable of some fantastic tricks, most notably his ability to give the harmonium synth-like qualities. On 'Point Hammond' and 'You Ain't Reeling' he creates an almost arpeggiated sound that when combined with droned harmonies sounds very much like a J. Carpenter composition. In fact, the more I listen the more it becomes apparent that Fennelly has essentially created an awesome sounding new synth capable of creating rich, untapped tones from a harmonium and a bunch of cheap effects. Very nice.
