- A White Rainbow Spanning The Dark by Donato Wharton
8/10 Clinton Staff review, 03 June 2011
My worries about this being another addition to the Norman Records drone mountain were banished by the time of the second track where scratchy guitar scrapings and some nice bluesy guitar (oh no, someone stop me I'm about to say it) licks come into play. Like the furthest reaches of the Talk Talk later experiments or Neil Young's soundtrack for 'Dead Man' this is a hugely evocative work, beautifully recorded and with a nice amount of hiss and other noise disturbing the mix. Elsewhere we have organ drones, amp buzz, industrial scrapes, ringing chords and at several times near silence. Strangely along with Marsen Jules, the second ex City Centre Offices artist in today's review pile, this is a unique artist creating something truly original out of what has become a rather overcrowded genre.
