9/10 Brian Staff review, 08 July 2011
S'more whacked-out cosmic records anyone? Well Dark Lord of the Cosmic order of Northern England, Dave Lazonby, has been jamming with the likes of Damo Suzuki for years and quite probably has the most mind-bendingly comprehensive knowledge of strange psych, folk and kraut records that you'll ever encounter outside of Julian Cope's inner circle. I think Dr. Cope would heavily dig this transparent head-spazz vinyl mofo a great deal. Dave's latest incarnation of his long-running improv collective (formerly spacerockers Geese) currently numbers five members including his mainstay, the legendary Steve Goodwin of much missed Leeds art-poppers Cud on bass! I'm thoroughly loving this mad-faced disc mesen - forged from two long, languid tracks of skittering DIY motorik drum machine grooves; industrial sonic rumbles; brain-squeezing astral effects; cool radiophonic style electro sounds; monged druggy synths; UFO-like organ lines, all graced with a relentless trippy psychedelic chill-out vibe that totally sounds like the fucking future/past as interpreted by some mad, bad grinning Yorkshire-based hippies. There's not a minute on this record where I don't feel like throwing myself onto a huge beanbag in a day-glo-decked, darkened, incense-filled room and turning this up sky-high as I gleefully drain a sizeable flygaric mushroom brew. Probably, nay definitely, my underground record of the week, I passionately hope they play a live jam round these parts soon cause I am SO gonna be THERE!!! Look at that barking sleeve, the music within will not disappoint!!
