8/10 Dave Staff review, 02 June 2011

I didn't know who Jay Reatard was. I just thought he was some garage rock schmuck. I wasn't aware that he was packing so many sweet cuts. Reading his discography takes about 17 hours of your life. It's like War & Peace, albeit with more drug taking. His idea of a "quiet night in" basically involves writing a fuck load of high octane garage rock songs, doing a load of coke then smashing his roommates face in..maybe. Anyway what else is there to do? This Memphis born rapscallion has been making music since he was knee high to a grasshopper and most of it is quite frankly amazing. This LP was first released in 1998 and it's full to the brim....with rocking songs. It's pretty relentless. All the songs rush by you in such a way, that after listening you have to lay down and snort something to try and get to the same heady level as the protagonist. The album has a real rough and ready sound (well its garage rock innit!?!) that snarls and fizzes away at your tiny little mind. The songs have hidden qualities that you might not notice as its a fairly breathless affair. The musicianship is scrappy yet fast and quite tight when it needs to be. The LP comes with 2 early Reatard cassettes*, which have enough charm and quality to stand on there own, The Reatards Cassette has some awesome garage rock numbers including the long lost classic "Get The Fuck Out Of MY House". The other cassette is the seminal "Fuck Elvis Here's The Reatards" album which has 10 songs. All of them are exciting punk rock numbers and add fuel to the Reatard fire. (*You don't actually get cassettes with this record...the two albums mentioned are part of the CD!!... just so you know...) Does this sound exciting? Well if garage rock - in the words of the worlds greatest drummer Lars Ulrich - makes your dick hard you should get this LP and bed down with the Reatards!!!
