6/10 Clinton Staff review, 13 May 2011

The sleeve has pictures of babies on which, when you put it alongside the title, makes a kind of sense I suppose. So not only is the internet being weighed down with baby photos we get them on record sleeves too (and one of them is suckling a teat). The vinyl is madcap in colour - kind of black with a big squiggle. The music contained within moves at a snails pace. Its reverbed guitar twanging reminicent of Crystal Stilts, Galaxie 500, sounding like it was recorded in a big old hall with the faders pushed into the red. The standout is the B side title track which comes from the My Morning Jacket school of echo laden balladry with some Shadows-like guitar twangs thrown in for good measure. Highly stylised and definitely flawed in my opinion with the odd off key vocal and slightly busy guitar tending to destroy the ambience created by the bass and drums. Having said that the title track especially is extremely promising and the EP will appeal to fans of Mazzy Star, Low, Jesus and Mary Chain, Chris Isaak and My Morning Jacket.
