Looking at the artwork and song titles I fully expected this to be some kind of black metal record, but it isn't at all. The first side is glacially-paced psychedelic ceremonial music with a flat one-beat and lots of chanting and drones. The second side is even trippier and seems to involve some kind of tape manipulation or something. After several minutes in the swampy black wilderness of 'Disciple's Ascent' there's the brief percussive chant of 'The Niche of Lights' to close off proceedings. It's a perplexing but engaging record. If you listen to it too loud your neighbours might think you've joined some kind of cult. And for all you collector fetishists, it was lathe-cut by Peter King in New Zealand and there's only 100 of them so I believe you understand the you-snooze-you-lose nature of this situation.
