The newie from the Smoke Fairies is a dark, lustful ode to one of the female Gladiators...only joshing. It is a dark lustful ode to something though. It reminds me of a modern day Fleetwood Mac with the folk music setting turned way up. It's a really nice song actually. The vocals sound sumptuous and the gently plucked guitars and subtle percussion lend an earthy feel to the proceedings. If this sounds like hippy talk that's because it is. These girls are right up there with Joni Mitchell in the hippy sweepstakes. On the front cover for this single they are pictured in a forest twirling about like the impish folk mistresses that they probably are. If you look closely you can just see Swampy disappearing into the undergrowth. All crap jokes aside it is a rather haunting composition that stays with you long, long after you listen to it. More high end stuff from everybody's favourite Fairies.
