Mogwai plod on with a new single off their acclaimed (by some) album 'Hardcore will never die but you will'. This is one of the more memorable tunes of that opus (but they are all memorable I hear you say). Okay then, this one stood out on my one listen through the record, firstly as it's a decent enough tune in a Pell Mell meets Shellac way but secondly for the alarming amount of compression applied to every instrument, particularly the drums. It really is a harsh sounding thing, particularly when compressed further onto 7" vinyl. The B-side is a live in the studio version of 'George Square Thatcher Death Party' which is approximately 35% less memorable than the A-side but features a vocoder line and lots of string bending on the old guitars. Isn't it best to keep Thatcher alive though? Let her suffer into a grotesque, painful, never ending old age?
