8/10 Brian Staff review, 09 June 2011

This is a Norwegian band possibly named after a classic '40s French mystery, known in our tongue as 'The Raven'. They feature Serena Maneesh's guitarist and make a kind of rumbling, dusty, fuzzy post-rock with intermittent groovy saxophone touches which I find utterly appealing. They touch on the dirty, sleazy sound of bands such as The Gun Club and Morphine but infuse their songs with a chiming, dreamy edge. There's a beautiful discordance to the guitars in places and they adopt a very Sonic Youth attitude to alternative tunings and minor chord changes and are seemingly adept at casually rocking out like old American fuzzballers like Dinosaur Jr. or Treepeople. These songs are finely detailed and like to languish in your mind like the largely mid-paced alt-rock chuggers they are. So they've steamrolled all their admittedly impeccable influences into a rather impressive brew and come out of it sounding both fairly original and comfortingly familiar. I've really enjoyed this album a couple of times now and think maybe you should get involved.
