8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 19 May 2011

The People's Temple are a Michigan-based four piece psych pop band formed by two sets of brothers. I've somehow managed to miss out on their early 7"s and tapes but I'm assured by the press release that 'Sons Of Stone' signals a progression for the group in both songwriting and production terms. It doesn't sound particularly hi-fi but it is very well recorded. The music is a typical blend of classic indie rock and 60's psych influences which is something we're hearing a lot of lately here at Norman towers. Luckily the lads totally nail it on 'Sons Of Stone' and give me no real cause for concern. 'Visions Of The Sun' and 'Where You Gonna Go?' are particularly good examples of the group revitalising the sound of The Troggs and elsewhere they psych it up 13th Floor Elevator style whilst avoiding the trappings of said sound. For some reason it reminds me of an LSD induced The Soft Pack. I guess they've got the hooks and melodies yet they've made more effort to smudge it over with reverberance and bong smoke. Cheeky pop from another time.
