- The Unstoppable Phax Machine by Ceephax Acid Crew
Thought this was never gonna arrive! Six spanking new slices of Ceephax fun times courtesy of Squarepusher's little bro (I bet he hates the constant reference to big brother) Andy Jenkinson. As you all know, Andy Jenkinson is a fucking multi-synth-owning, stoner super genius with only one thing on his mind, amusing himself regardless of what anyone else thinks or may want from him. I'm still expecting him to go through his 'really' serious music making period (much like big brother) but it never seems to come. No bad thing mind as A. Jenkinson's shit be top of the pile with no need for amendments or mature musical ambitions. This 12" kicks off with in classic Ceephax Acid party style with 'South Bark', a truly mind blowing exploration of banging acid house. It's a corker. It's followed by synth worshipping relax-o-jam 'Testing Ground' that wouldn't have been out of place on last years 'United Acid Emirates' LP before unleashing 'Nigel Ringtone' a breakbeat/acid mash-up that can't help but bring a smile to your face with its breezy melodic line and its brief (and very cheeky) foray into 'Charly Says' territory. Flip that baby over and it's bad-to-the-bone ghetto bass time. 'Refresher' unites acid with the kinda funky electro groove you'd expect from DMX Krew and the like. A.J. tops things off with a Kraftwerk-esque eastern bloc style synth workout filled with the promise of a utopian future (as if...) before leaving us with a demented slice of barking (literally) mad baroque breakbeat entitled 'Woof Acid'. It's sounds like what you'd expect to happen if DJ Scotch Egg and Dan Deacon collaborated on a tune inspired by their love of Red Bull and KFC Zinger burgers. Class as per... Buy as per...
