9/10 Effie the cat Customer review, 11th March 2017
A real marmite of a record. I played it to my parents and they were convinced it wasn't the Wolf. They both hated it, most people I have talked to about it do.
Made in 1969, someone in chess records noticed psychedelic music was selling so made howlin wolf reimagine some of his classics. He hated it, as referenced in the cover. The sun sessions, this ain't. This all sounds incredibly negative and that's the common view on this album. However I love it. I love it because it rocks. I love it because it's soooooooooo good to dance to. I love it because it's so effortlessly cool. When I was a teenager playing guitar if I had heard this it would have been all I wanted to sound like. THAT guitar!
The follow up album 'message to the young' also rocks
