- Smokescreen by Religious Knives
6/10 Dave Staff review, 21 April 2011
The latest release from RK is a bonged out attack on the senses. Well not so much an attack more like a hearty scuffle on the senses. They are a four piece from Brooklyn jam band that sound a bit like Wooden Shjipps or however you spell it. They draw out passages of songs to great effect. They sound like they recorded this under the influence of some sweet chong, though it wouldn't surprise me if they were all teetotal new age Veggie food eating fucks that don't touch "the stuff". They probably do there partying on stage, not in the practice room gathered round a bong. Anyway this collection of songs will make you want to get dead high and melt into the chair. It starts of with an atmospheric keyboard swell then mooches on from there. It has ghostly vocals, louche sounding drums rhythms and mucho wa waa (this isn't Ewok speak I mean Wah Wah guitar pedals...like the ones Hendrix used!!). All the tracks seem to last longer than time in a good way. You an easily get lost in the Religious Knives. They have made a sweet record and if you like your music hemp filled this puppies for you. Comes with a free subscription to "Underpants Monthly". Wonderful stuff.
