1 review | 4 people love this record: be the 5th! This is pure laid back LA/ California/ West Coast bliss. I can imagine cruising the hills in a huge motorcar with the lid off, sun blazing as I bounce to this refreshing brand of chilled acid-tronics. I'm feeling a smattering of G-funk, acid house, hip-hop etc. The only comparison I can muster is some of Luke vibert's stuff but this is a little more lo-fi. No idea who the human/s behind this sound are and as far as I can tell the only other release they have dropped have been a couple of DIY CDr's plus a handmade cassette which was "left in random places in The San Fernando Valley. Including: Goodwill's, Pierce Community College and In and Out Burger Restaurants and Starbucks. Outstanding promotional strategy!!! This record has landed in perfect time for the UK sunshine. All six cuts on here are well moody with some sweet TB-303 basslines working the subtle grooves with finesse while some vibrant soulful melodies melt like the baking California sunshine. There's a fair amount of sampling too on these stoned electro-funkers. I get the vibe the drums might be MPC constructions but cant be sure. There's also a charming simplicity and bedroom vibe that recalls some earlier Ceephax tunes. Gotta play this one to our Business Lady, I'm sure she'll be down with these mellow vibes. The last tune has a tougher kick than elsewhere on the record but it's still most tranquil.
