8/10 Clinton Staff review, 15 April 2011

Its Friday, its 11.03 and welcome once again to Clint's Exotic Pop corner. This time we travel all the way to the Punjab for the crazy psychedelic sounds of Sohail Rana. Rana was a maestro of Pakistan film and pop composition and this was his attempt to use folk music from Sindh and the Punjab to evoke the imagery of a freight train passing through Pakistan. Its beautiful evocative music, at times comedic, at times melancholic, the sounds come from a combination of squeaky, wheezing organ, intricate percussion, sitar, accordion  rhythmic guitar and vibraphone. It's a whole heap of fun that recalls some kind of Joe Meek like figure obsessing about the intricacies of his compositions. The tunes belt along at hi-speed and recall a crazy roller-coaster like train ride. This has found fans in the likes of Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls) and the original vinyl now retails for £300!
