8/10 Clinton Staff review, 15 April 2011
I'm not sure where the remix album sits in 2011. There have been plenty of examples recently of albums coming out in different versions but it still seems something more akin to 2003 when people still bought albums and it was something of a novelty. How many remix albums do you own and play regularly? It has to be something really special, which is something that Moritz Von Oswald may have had in mind when he sculpted opener 'Welt Am Draht' - it is a lovely chilled out ambient techno piece which deserves a release all of its own. Die Vogel go completely horny on their staccato version of the same track but it's the big hitters Four Tet and Animal Collective that up the game a little. The Four Tet remix is simply superb. A 4/4 techno strut with acidy squiggles and magnificent use of vocals that come in just at the right time, Animal Collective do their usual dream like thing with thumping two step kick drum and echoey vocals. Other remixes come from Lawrence, The Sight Below, Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince himself and many many more. The vinyl has five tracks plus a download code for the remainder.
