Jeff Witscher is back on Type as Rene Hell - one of a zillion pseudonyms he creates/ collaborates under (Secret Abuse, Deep Jew, Madelbrott & Sky, Marble Sky, Impregnable etc.) This record is a little less kosmische revival than the previous album and marks the artist's direction into more composed complex pieces as a fuck you to the wave of minimal drone knocking about these days. He uses a mixture of analogue and digital tools to create more classically influenced structures as can be heard on 'Cello Suite No 3' and 'Baroque Ensemble Coda' for example. Although things have been refined somewhat there is still a rawness which is appealing. I've been enjoying the bleepier tracks with all the little squiggles and pulses going off everywhere.
