6/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 27 April 2011
I'm not sure I can take a band called Sleeps In Oysters very seriously. Saying that, their second full length album features loads of fantastic animal masks on the sleeve (some of which I also own myself like unnaturally small chicken head and Panda face to name but a a couple) so that's redeeming. Not sure where these lads are from 'cause their press release is mainly just metaphorical space gibberish, which is kind of a good description of the music performed on 'Lo!'. Sleeps In Oysters like to monkey about with sounds... all sorts of sounds. Field recordings, half finished audio, bedroom electronics, astral synth, spoken word, silence, acoustic collages and half muttered balladry all make an appearance here but it's the strange way that this music is compiled that makes it an interesting listen. This is some kooky business for sure but there's a bit of everything going on here so there'll be a moment or two for everyone to enjoy.
