Buen Chico are a long serving Leeds indie-rock staple. After two full length rekkids and a few other bits and bobs to their name, Morgan Tatchell-Evans (singing, guitar), Kirsty Dolan (bass, singing) and Alan Kenworthy (drummer and cousin of the real Kenny) have been on a short break to write songs and re-evaluate their musical direction. They return with The Seasons EP, four tracks of indie rock with a newfound sense of maturity. Buen Chico tend to hang their musical ideas from the lyrical (mis)adventures of singer/guitarist Morgan who's must have gone through a period of deep contemplation in 2009/2010 as these songs are vast and complex in structure and incredibly serious in tone. Well, serious in Buen Chico terms anyway. Very ambitious stuff, this, and certainly more in tune with the modern indie pop we are currently hearing on the radio and that. I'm curious as to why spring has been neglected from their tribute to the seasons (song titles are 'Summer, 'Autumn', Winter' and 'Last Song'!)? Spring is easily the best season. Summer has a lot of pressure to deal with (will it be a hot summer? will I have fun? will I meet new friends and go on adventures? Will I see The Breeders? Tell me summer DAMN you!), yet spring only has to deliver on the promise of good times, and the promise is all the matters, right?
