8/10 Phil Staff review, 24 March 2011
These things are always darker than dark. Dark text on dark packaging and there's never any words on there. That might seem clever but you try working in a record shop and finding it when someone orders a copy! If you want to know what an ecotono is then read the press release, I'm not gonna tell you. I am gonna tell you that they're a pair of Spanish dudes who have guitars and quite know how to use them. The album starts in a more typical Utech fashion with it being dark and heavy and ultra doomy. Then the music chills out quite a lot with some textured layers of guitars which veer off into shoegazey or post-rock territory. It's a shimmery collage of guitars and drones fighting for world peace! Later on there's some strange electronic business going on 'n all. It's a very varied record actually and they've managed to create something quite different sounding (if you listen to it in its entirety). That's my words on the matter.
