Ultra-cool to be fortunate enough to score some copies of this record. Released before their latest '936' album on Not Not Fun, looking back listening to this disc helps trace the evolution of the duo's sound. Things here are even more lo-fi, more loosely song-based but no less appealing and at various moments even more so. The sounds here create a place where it's great to hang out. These basement electronics transmissions are like a celestial hall of mirrors where delayed vocal harmonies bounce off of one another while slivers of metallic synth, distant percussion and tons of effects all weave a cocoon around me, making the world go away. There are hints of the more poppy direction they've been exploring recently and indeed there's some catchy elements submerged within the mix but for some ears I would say that the record generally is not immediately as accessible as the recent LP, but their energy and the beauty of their sounds is present is droves. 'Little Birds' for example is fantastic with soul stirring keys, and layers of blissed out guitar and electronics. There's just something about the sounds these guys make that really connects with me. Lush one-sided clear vinyl with flip side screen printed with ace cyberdelic graphics. Limited edition!
