- The High Road by The Present Moment

What can I say about The Present Moment. They make real industrial Goth type stuff of the like I never really understood. I guess if I was "real Leeds", born and bred, I'd be able to relate to these overly dramatic dark synth tones, but I'm not, I'm from Telford. In Telford we listen to proper pop music like Yazz and Shanice, not a load of industrial doom and gloom. So anyway, this producer is a spooky hood-sporting dude named Scott Milton who you may know from the bands Catalog and Moodorgan. Here he mashes up classic electro influences like The Human League & Heaven 17 and injects industrial influences like NIN & Coil. Now, has this ever been done before? Can't say for sure. 'The High Road' works well in the instrumental moments, it has a wild industrial techno vibe to it at times which I don't mind but when vocals are introduced it just sounds like a load of stuff you'll have heard a ton of times before. Not that it's a bad thing, you don't hear much truly original music nowadays and this is a well conceived, well produced effort so I shouldn't give the lad a hard time. A brave and industrious LP indeed. Oh, and it comes on picture disc with a free download which is nice innit.
