- A Siren Blares In An Indifferent Ocean by Bridget Hayden
9/10 Ant Staff review, 17 March 2011
The last CDr I heard on Golden Lab from this good lady totally blew my mind so when this LP landed I got excited about the possibilities contained within its grooves. Of course Bridget is probably most recognized for her work in Vibracathedral Orchestra but beyond that she appears to keep herself fairly busy. These recordings date from between 2005 and 2008 and she lays down eight improvised tracks using out of tune guitar, pedals and four track, no messin'. The sound is down low, bleak and murky with 'Breaking' being a particular highlight. Its a totally fucked sounding, chugging apocalyptic blues number that sounds like it's about to collapse in on itself at any given second. Similarly 'Thrash Mementoes' sounds like its dragging some old delta blues players corpse through hell. Beyond the ferocity is real depth and spirit emerging from the abyss. Recommended.
