Cold Cave return with a fuller more bombastic sound that sounds less New Order inspired than the previous album and more inspired by stuff like Suede and The Cure, which is particularly apparent in the vocal delivery. Brian reckons opener 'The Great Pan Is Dead' sounds like the Bravery crossed with Abe Vigoda too and there is a slight pompous element that makes that statement ring true! Things are all pretty energetic and up beat with some well decent synth sounds but I'm not really fully connecting with it. A couple of tracks sort of remind me of Dead Or Alive and 'Confetti' sounds like classic Erasure, from the vocal through to the class Vince Clarke-alike synthesizers. It's these types of tracks that I much prefer throughout the record. Even a few moments recall the highly under-rated GD Luxxe. Although, generally, there is a suggestion of darkness emitting from the sound, things seem sorta quite chirpy! Certainly a few tracks grow with repeated listens. No doubt Wesley Eisold is a talented artist as he continues his musical vision.
