REVIEWS
This is a new 'Friends' not 'Friends' the 80's indie pop band whose 'You'll Never See That Summertime Again' is a surefire classic! But as we all know there aren't enough names to go round these days so there is more recycling than ever. Thankfully they impress with their music which to these ears hits the perfect place somewhere between Warpaint and The XX. Its girl fronted slightly eerie pop music with nods towards the late 70's/early 80's girl pop revolution of The Slits etc. but with a Blondie pop sensibility. (Note to record company: use that line on the press blurb if you want) Enough cliche's for you? The A side is a whole bundle of memorable fun with sinewy guitar lines and throbbing bass. The B side is more experimental with Spector beats over laden with near acapella vocals, clapping and Tom Tom Club rhythms. Excellent harmonies. Hmmmm.. a bit of a Panda Bear/ Animal Collective choral thing going on. Drops a point for spelling 'licensed' wrong on the back sleeve but that's no fault of the band unless they were drafted in as emergency proof-readers.
