Its friday, its 10.41AM, its time for Clint's exotic pop compilation of the week. This time we have a most lovely looking package on Sublime Frequencies compiled back in '89 by Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls). Imagine being impaled by the equator? Ouch! Well that's the situation in Indonesia. This music comes from Sumatra on its north west tip from which I'm told (by the press release) that a collection of tigers, orangutans and vast swathes of musical history. The music is a grab bag of styles from traditional sounding shanties to modern (ish) sounding pop to distant campfire wailing to heartfelt, lonesome weeping. B side opener Indandg Pariaman is particularly impressive, a fantastic little repetitive Eastern melody which somehow recalls a track from this weeks Bibio album. Its all nicely lo fidelity in nature and a fascinating introduction of the rich culture of this part of the world.
