This is a fuzzy, buzzy racket. We were sold the last single as a Vivian Girls spin-off but there's no-one called Fiona or Madison in the Vivian Girls, so therefore I supremely doubt we've been told the truth. This is a fuzzy, buzzy racket. We were sold the last single as a Vivian Girls spin-off but there's no-one called Fiona or Madison in the Vivian Girls, so therefore I supremely doubt we've been told the truth. It's a shit crooked business is this. The first side I encounter on here is a hollowed-out mid-paced scuzz-ball of a tune that sounds more early 90's than mid-80's. The guitar on 'Discovery' is lairy & fuzzed-out, the drums played with reasonable abandon although the girl vocals are suitably ghostly. The supposed 'A' side, 'Same Old Same Old' is a total cracker with (initially) spectral new wave guitars & the dirty clattering drums chuffing along on the verse, 3 beats and a fill-in style. On the chorus they do actually resemble the Vivians but with more crackly guitar overload & distortion burying everything, the muddied vocal harmonies caught fluttering in the sonic murk, detached, disembodied but pregnant with possibilities.
