- The Son(s) by The Son(s)
This is a nice little surprise of a CD featuring well put together slightly pastoral indie which at varying times recalls Super Furry Animals and The Beta Band. The drifting 'Sonny, You'll never get that Ride' sounds like Robert Wyatt fronting The Bees. This is kind of what I would have liked Gruff Rhy's latest album to sound like, very summery folk pop with gentle guitar fingerpicking. I'm reminded also of The Leisure Society and the more gentle moments on the Steve Mason 'Boys Outside' album. At times there are wanders into Pink Floyd/Verve style guitar explorations but overall the vibe is of pleasant rustic folk pop.
10/10 Jay Stansfield
When I first put this album into my stereo I just thought 'At last, some new music with something in it that makes me feel something'. It's been a while since that happened. The last few bands of note that did that are Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver. The vocals are like a mix of Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, Gruff Rhys and someone else.Well produced the album flows well track to track and really has a classic sound to it. Great songwriting coupled with a great recording are always a winner in my book.Highly recommended!
