Got a couple of bits in from Mexican Summer this week including this slab of classic southern style rock aping fun from Soldiers Of Fortune. Man, this sounds ultra refreshing after reviewing a load of try hard, post-everything toshers this week. Soldiers Of Fortune play blues. Soldiers Of Fortune play solos. Soldiers Of Fortune know how to use the lungs, diaphragm and vocal chords to project raw, joyous emotion. Soldiers Of Fortune totally fucking rock! One of the guys in the band is pictured wearing a Boston t-shirt and there's a lot of sunglasses and leather jackets lying around which should hopefully tell you everything you need to know. The band are totally tight and righteous in their approach with the drummer showing great strength of character on the skins. Listing influences is not necessary but I think it's worth biggin' up Mexican Summer for being bad ass enough to release both the Teams vs. Star Slinger EP and this in the same week! Both so different stylistically but totally comparable due to the fact that they are both good. Is that too much to ask of bands/artists these days? I hope not. If these guys aren't named after Thin Lizzy's 'Soldier Of Fortune' I'll be very disappointed. Just noticed that Matt Sweeney plays in this band. Remember Chavez? Fucking unbelievable!
