Disappears have been keeping themselves busy of late. It doesn't seem that long ago that debut 'Lux' dropped and since then they've released a live LP and now they're back again with a new studio LP 'Guider'. Hopefully you have some idea of what's going on with these lads by now but for the uninitiated we are talking classic psych, garage, krautrock and post punk influences all fused into the kinda band we'd all love to be in. Spontaneous, spacious, loud and disciplined Disappears sound like them dangerous bands who wear sunglasses indoors that your mum wouldn't want you associating with. Bands like Spacemen 3, The velvet Underground, Spiritualized, Wire, Hawkwind and stuff like that, you know... proper bands with drugs and bad attitudes. The way they mash the metronomy of Krautrock with the urgency of NZ punk rock is totally exhilarating. It's kinda like Wooden Shjips but instead of sticking with a joint and the same riff for an entire song they take amphetamines and mix things up a bit occasionally. Sounds great turned up real loud. Nice one Kranky, it's about time you signed a rock band.
