Televised Crimewave are a relative new entity spawned from the ashes of the much hyped Leeds "art-punk" band Black Wire. Not sure what happened to Black Wire but I didn't pay much attention in the first place so i guess it doesn't matter. Nowadays the lads are playing downbeat garage rock type stuff that is occasionally referred to as death rock due to it's obsession with the morbid nature of the world we live in. Lead track 'Help The Girl' is a well executed example of a slightly depressing pop rock tune, it's not so bad. Flip it over and you've got 'Hotel America', a more up tempo affair (note: i may have mixed these two tracks up as there's no indication of which side is which) tied together with a strong rhythm section and topped off with a mildly crooned vocal line. This side works a lot better for me as it holds a solid groove and has a decent post-punk style vibe about it. Kinda like what I'd have expected from the new Gang Of Four album but played by some other guys. This ones on tasty green vinyl.
