Going into this as a total virgin to The Phantom Family Halo's world I'm not sure what to make of the first couple of minutes and I'm certainly not confident about rattling off a load of shite telling you what this album's like because it sort of seems as though it could go just about anywhere and by the end might have completely contradicted what I wrote about it in the beginning, thus ensuring that I look like a prize tit (not for the first time, I'll grant you). Some snippets from a brief skim through then: this bit's got some some satisfying drum rhythms allied to harshly processed snippets of found sound in a slightly Smegma style, then this bit's got ESG basslines and almost poppy vocals, then this bit sounds a bit like Liars circa Drum's Not Dead, then this bit reminds me of Tuxedomoon in a weird sort of way, then this bit's got cheesy 80s guitar on like James Ferraro or summat, then this bit's a retro synth workout that goes all cosmic and noisy mit newsreader, then this bit's all Angelo Badalamenti, then this bit sounds like one of those in-joke type tracks you get on Desert Sessions records. So reminiscent of lots of things in a totally good way without ever quite sounding completely like any of them.. A good place to be, I think.
