Weird how this was reviewed in The Wire magazine as a Drexciyan offshoot project (& almost critically mauled as a result!) even though it's merely Gerald Donald's guiding hand & inspiration that has steered these three Berlin-based femmes noir into this particular glacial, frosty project they're slinking through. Basically if you've not heard any of Zwischenwelt member Beta Evers' sharp, murky & seductive style of electro stretching back years on the Bunker & Creme International labels then you'll maybe not fully understand what the point is with this album. Personally I love it! Stringent, icy, moody ethereal electro torch songs that do certainly recall the sparser Dopplereffekt stuff in spirit. The Der Zyklus material also shares a measure of brittle dystopian bleakness - sonically this album fits into that clinical/minimal mould. Andrea Parker's been slinging releases out in this style & of this quality for bloody years & no-one pays any sodding attention! The minute our friends (the admittedly clued-up) Rephlex start throwing the words Zola Jesus & Drexciya into the press release, both the chin stroker techno fraternity & the nu-goth kids get all excited! Well a bit anyway. My advice is IGNORE ALL THE REVIEWS (including this one) and submerge yourself quietly into this album with good quality headphones (maybe whilst in the bath?) & hear the beautiful desolation of sad android synths, occasional female vocal nonchalance & crisp electroid beats 'n' pulses mingling with some totally out-there glistening cyber-sounds! It's on Rephlex you see. These people don't put rubbish "trendy" music out. Be warned!!
