I always felt that the whole swamp blues thing was a bit overdone these days and these brisbanarians (is that a word? 'Tis noooow!) kind of nail it home in some ways. They're a competent bunch with a meaty low groovin' bass and spidery, wiry gothic guitar strides. There's tracks'd make you dance like a whirlwind in some voodoo rockers bar downtown. I can't help but feel the doom is a bit contrived although they've a pretty good crossover appeal. I reckon Interpol-ers will find plenty to grimace along to here. And I like Interpol. I also kind of like these Birthday Party wannabees. Grungy name and all. I think they need to expand their horizons a bit, mind.
