Wolf People recorded these recent jams in a 17th Century Welsh mansion which is a pretty fucking spawny situation to land yourself in. Proper jealousy levels. I'm lucky if I can get the soundcard in my laptop to work in my kitchen. Anyway, jealousy aside this is a cool single. Now, I've noticed these lads have been selling a fair few LP's here at Norman's but I didn't realise they we're an all out homage to mid 70's progressive and hard rock, in a similar vein to Jagjaguwar label mates Black Mountain but way better. 'Silbury Sands' oozes Canterbury prog vibes from the outset. It's got a sweet Greg Lake-esque vocal line, a Led Zeppelin style guitar hook and a bunch of kick ass guitar solos. It's a powerful throwback of a tune basically. B-side 'Dry' provides more of the same, stylistically and quality wise. It starts of with a riff that wouldn't sound out of place on an Eric Bell-era Thin Lizzy record before settling into a soulful rock epic with a vocal that verges on the San Francisco folk rock sound and again, it ends with a bunch of ace solos. I can't recall when I decided that solos we're a good thing but somehow they are!
