Oh shit, I got the man of the year, I better be goddamn respectful! That Klavierwerk EP was definitely a masterstroke in post-club dynamism & stunning downtempo bliss. I'm thoroughly loving some of the musical tricks he employs on this, his much-heralded eponymous debut. He makes very interesting moves in the "beats department", playing outside the box with curious clicky off-rhythms & THAT synth, when it occasionally comes out to play, is a euphoric, all-enveloping beast indeed. So, pin this man down at your peril. He relies on skillfully layering atmospheres & womb-like pulses to guide his music. I can hear some implicit light jazz moods in there too. I wish he'd shut his stupid vocodered trap for a bit though. Imagine having this twat & Jamie Lidell doing a duet in your living room? "Right love, get the sweeping brush out, some fuckers done a big android soul turd on the carpet...." Like Phil, I'm not keen on this contemporary take on vocal soul music. Business Lady wants some proper beats as well, rather than "all this rim-shot business" I'm feeling the intermittent sub-bass freqs on this album though. All-in-all the general mood is one of woozy, sleepy ecstasy & if I can have an instrumental cut delivered into my shell-like of this album I might just shit myself with happiness. So, somewhere between Lidell, Mount Kimbie, Laurie Anderson & FlyLo. He's got production chops the size of Jupiter has this guy. Everyone in "the media" is creaming themselves over this 21st century soul man, you may as well join them. I'm hanging back for a pint & a think however. Give me some time.....
why are all the hip young things wearing horseriding jackets ? i want to know... James Blake wears one, i've seen it. I haven't listened to his album, seeing a picture of his horseriding jacket has put me off. I liked the bell sketches single but that was before i saw him in a horseriding jacket. I reckon this album was made in between a fox hunt and a pheasant sandwich. Fuck him and leave them poor foxes alone you posh cunts..
