I proper love this 12" already. The Deeep have had a cassette out on Not Not Fun and now we've this vinyl EP available on new label 100% Silk stuffed with remixes of their classic 'Mudd' single. 'Muddy Tracks' is a real slow-paced, tripped-out brooder of a tune carried by a languid beat, a stalker synth line & heady, listless female vocal that swirls dreamily around your head. It all briefly disintegrates into a humid & tropical abstract segment about 6-7 minutes in then rapidly re-assembles itself, shackled with a considerably more S&M sounding beat; the ponderous creepy synth back-on-track; the vocals becoming even more ethereal, mystical & multi-tracked - all these elements winding their way into your mind in the form of wispy intoxicating electro tendrils. The Syrupy Sideways remix on the flip has numerous dubbed-out effects and a kind of stuttering witch-house beat. It features raw tropical guitar licks & absolute bags of smoky atmosphere. Brett notices the strong whiff of Forest Swords and remarks, quite astutely, that this record features "everything that is currently fashionable" Only problem is, it also happens to be really, really fucking good, especially the amazing 'A' side so It gets full marks from moi...Like Balaeric music for LA goths or summat!
