- As I Write 'Today' 10 Times by The Andersen Tapes
Ah! Some gleeful, excitable Swedish indie now. My forte possibly? Well, when it's done this beautifully how can I resist? I particularly like the production on this album. It's got a real lo-fi edge but dinky guitar lines & bass vibrations constantly punch through the faintly murky aura as does the delectable voice of Amanda Aldervall. There's certainly, once again, a Heavenly/Talulah Gosh influence in there on occasion, but this is only really apparent in the irrepressible jauntiness & dreamy vocal stylings on a couple of tunes. TAT kick out fairly joyous stuff but not particularly "twee" as such. There's a looseness & mischievousness to this pack which is most refreshing. Songs are tenderly played but with a slightly raw DIY edge which helps create a displaced aura, kind of like you're listening in to something intended for the ears of others. I get the same kind of feel I do from that wonderful Those Dancing Days album or the debut Love is All record. An intimacy & innocence that is rarely captured in modern music. Then there's a track which has me dreaming of a really early Cardigans demo! Remember them ;0) ? It's also fair to say that many songs here have either a classic Sarah or K records feel. But not all, it's quite a varied, moody beast y' know! Jangly, rattly & a little spangled! A charming eclectic album from the fertile Scandinavian underground. They know what they're doing up in them thar hills.....
