Right, let me explain this. This is a subscription series. If you subscribe (we have three slots left) you get all six albums plus two free bonus LPs! You can also buy them individually but they work out more expensive and you won't get the bonus discs. Here is the first one. It's fair to say that Matthew Friedberger is at least half bonkers. You may know him as the Richard Carpenter of The Fiery Furnaces, the mad genius to the rear doing the music bit whilst his sister sings. Very often their records have driven me to distraction or fury but at other times they are almost ridiculously inventive. On first listen I'm quite surprised how listenable this record is. This is the 'piano' edition so everything is just piano and vocals. Its a lot more accessible that his previous solo album, the preposterous double set 'Winter Women' and 'Holy Ghost Language School'. The primary influence I'd say would be Sparks. It has the tuneful songs and madcap lyrical twists and turns of the Mael Brothers, being just voice and piano its a very sparse sound but with the intricate structures there's still plenty to catch your ears on!
