8/10 Brett Staff review, 16 December 2010

Oooooh shit, didn't expect to be seeing any Mainliner reissues any time soon so imagine my glee upon opening the parcel containing these little fellas earlier on today.. It was like I'd unexpectedly struck lo-fi fuzz squall noise psych guitar gold, friends! And after having heard more than a few 'sound art'-y bits today listening to it now is clearing out the cobwebs very nicely indeed. It's a reissue of a 1997 release and while it doesn't quite approach the blown-speaker glory of Mellow Out (upsettingly reviewed by Brian elsewhere on the site) it's still a totally worthy listen, especially the tunes where Nanjo Asahito starts kicking out the pure Fun House bass grooves, allowing Kawabata Makoto to fully unleash wailing hell upon us all. I love that Asahito gave himself a production credit on here too.. I imagine most'd be trying to keep that quiet.
