1 review »First time on CD this one and if anyone's music out there is suited to the CD format it's Mr Basinski's. Originally this came out on vinyl back in 2003 and it's long out of print. Having said that you'd think the degradation in sound and decaying tape loops would suit the vinyl format over the years as small crackles and that develop. God knows. 9/10 Phil Staff review, 24 February 2011

First time on CD this one and if anyone's music out there is suited to the CD format it's Mr Basinski's. Originally this came out on vinyl back in 2003 and it's long out of print. Having said that you'd think the degradation in sound and decaying tape loops would suit the vinyl format over the years as small crackles and that develop. God knows. I prefer this kind of thing on CD. Here you get one 45 minute track based around tape loops of a simple echoey piano refrain which slowly change over the 45 minutes you spend with it. It's a delightfully minimal listen as well. It's totally calming me down after a(nother) crazy hectic day here. This quote from the press release says it all though and I can't really better that 'Think how Erik Satie could have sounded like if his most famous pieces had been inserted in a muffling mix after dropping him down a couple of octaves: a lament of decaying sounds, the feeling of a growing sorrow...” - Massimo Ricci. That's totally spot on. There's an awful lot of emotion in the music which seems like a hard thing to do as well given it's essentially the same loop for 45 minutes but Basinski has cracked it with this one. Excellent!
