8/10 Jack Customer review, 24th July 2015
In contrast to the album's lyrical content, the music is fun, catchy, and, somehow, inspired by both old and modern styles of music. It's hard to describe, just listen to "Please Ask for Help". Sounds like a mix between The Cure and The Shins, doesn't it? That's probably the only song I can describe with such accuracy, but the rest of the album has a similar vibe, albeit with varying degrees of 90s and 80s influence. Ultimately, I think Michael Lerner just takes what he thinks sounds best from those time periods to inspire a fresh sound.

Michael Benjamin Lerner is a one man band otherwise know as Telekenesis. I really enjoyed the self-titled mid-fi debut from Telekinesis, particularly the single "Coast Of Carolina". "12 Desperate Straight Lines" is the follow-up. It has higher production values making the songs a bit punchier, and probably sound more like other bands such as The Shins. I think, therefore, that it's not quite as good as the debut. Nevertheless, it's a good album full of summery indie-pop. "Car Crash" and "I Got You" are the stand out tracks.
