9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 10 March 2011

Dwayne Omarr appears to be an unsung hero of the Electro-Funk scene having worked with various musicians and producers since being discovered around the late 70's but never taking that big step to centre stage. He's one of them super gifted types who's been playing multiple instruments since his being discovered as a child and has since worked his way into songwriting and production with in excess of 300 tune to his name. In 2010 he hooked up with Rephlex to release some of his finest jams coupled with a few newies which is what we are listening to now. Can't say I've ever come across any of these tracks prior to hearing the promo for this LP a few weeks back but this guy is king of Funk! He's got the worlds of Electro-Funk, R&B, Future Funk and Party Rock all sewn up. On top of that the lad plays a mean bass bringing to mind master Bootsy with he's mashing of classic funk melodies with wild tonal effects like ring modulators, moogerfoogers and the like. He also endorses the vocoder style which suits these post Parliament Funk Rock workouts down to the ground. Each of the seven tracks included are stone cold party jams with 'This Party's Jam Packed', 'Omarr Rocks The Nation' (great Prince style guitar solo) and 'Multi-Funk' being fine examples of his unique electro funk blend. Also worth noting is the addition of a couple of pseudo-dub mixes of previously successful tracks like 'Breakdown New York Style (Incredible Dub Mix)' and 'Save The Children (Dub Mix)'. They are Dub's in the looses sense of the word but he's definitely having fun freshening up these tracks. Think Prince, Arabian Prince, Egyptian Lover, Grand Master Flash, Funkadelic / Parliament, Dam_Funk... all the good stuff.
