8/10 Dave Staff review, 10 December 2010

The Girls At Dawn LP sounds good folks. It sounds like music made after a party thrown by Syd Barrett with an all-girl garage band taking care of the musical proceedings. It's ghostly and primal and it sounds really tripped out. The songs sound haunting and are cloaked in reverb beamed straight in from the outer reaches of Phil Spector's mind. Some of the songs are choc-full of sadness. Some of them are strangley uplifting and almost joyous. If you can imagine a trio of ghosts singing heartfelt laments about being trapped in the netherworld you are probably on the right track. It has all the hallmarks of a great garage record. The guitars sound full of zing and then you get the vocals, all tuneful and filled with ghostly wonder. The drums are pounding and well Mo Tucker. There are 12 tracks on this gloriously downbeat LP and all of them are pretty sweet yet unrelentengly haunting. Its a haunted house of an album...I wish it was called "Girls At Dawn..Should have gone to Spectre-savers..."
