9/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 27 January 2011

Couple of observations before I get going with this one. Fergus & Geronimo are pretty funny lads. For example; the CD face of this disc has no info or artwork just a well observed statement that reads 'You Still Buy CD's?'. They have a real fan club like bands used to have in the old days before the internet went and fucked the whole thing up and every dicknose with a laptop started making records. Their single 'Blind Muslim Girl' was one of the best (and funniest) singles I heard last year. Also, on the insert for their debut album 'Unlearn' they make notes on their own linear notes. It could be suggested that these lads are insular and self referential which is probably true yet totally forgivable due to fact that they make great music and they appear to do it purely for their own amusement. Fergus & Geronimo are two dudes who also pass the time playing in Wax Museums and Teenage Cool Kids. They create a mutated form of garage rock infused indie pop that also owes a debt to psychedelia, soul, pop, doo-wop and pretty much every other avenue of music that has ever existed. For some reason I want to say that they sound like the new MGMT stuff but better and funnier and generally more appealing. Hope that's a fair statement? Actually, I don't care if it is or not, this is fucking great record filled with charming and deliberately enjoyable songs that people will actually want to listen to - surely that's enough. Highlights include every track.
